Fed Back in Focus
The main focus of the new week will be the Fed rersponse, if any, to the week-ago decline. The sharp price adjustment was not catastrophic as prices subsequently have gained back a lot of their lost ground. Nevertheless. the "adjustment" was clearly a product of concerns that many had been expressing about stock valuations. So far the latest earnings season has been running ahead of expectations despite a couple of high-profile misses. Absent a new equity plunge into Wednesday, we expect the central bank to continue to taper or perhaps even completely end its asset purchase program at this meeting. As for monetary policy, there is no need at this time to do anything other than continue to signal that rate
