There was a time when a central bank or finance official would make a comment and it would be like waving a red flag in front of a bull for a forex trader. The forex market would essentially say “put up or shut up” and attack a currency until the comment was backed up with a policy move. Look up your forex history in 1992 when Soros led the attack on Sterling that drove it out of the ERM (European Rate Mechanism).
