Lousy U.S. Jobs Data: Themes for Week of April 6, 2014

U.S. March Jobs Data Disappoint

The U.S. March employment data released on Friday were yet another disappointment for the markets. There had had been expectations when the February data were being released that the March data would see a sharp recovery as the impact of the difficult winter in much of the U.S. started to work its way out of the system. Furthermore, other data which tend to be good predictors of the data had been pointing to a stronger report. The consensus of forecasters going into the week had been for a gain in jobs of +200K. Over the week, data released had payroll estimates improved to an expected gain of around of +250K. So when the the jobs gain came in at +192,000, the markets were disappointed
