Yellen Makes Waves at Her First Press Conference

I am the first to admit that I was blindsided by Fed Chair Yellen Wednesday revealing the apparent Fed timeline for a start of a normalization of monetary policy. If there were a gaffe, it might only have been disclosing the timeline. There is no way she made up the timing of a likely Fed tightening off the top of her head. Whether this was a pre-planned announcement is debatable. I noticed in watching her that she paused and carefully selected her words. Were we all were expecting U.S. rates to remain at zero forever? Obviously the ultimate tightening, I call it "normalization", will have be data-dependent.
